Meet the teachers
The improvisation teachers at The Spontaneity Shop come from a wide variety of different backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common - a passion for improvised theatre and comedy and a delight in sharing these ideas with new people.
Tom is a founder director of The Spontaneity Shop and has been improvising since 1996. He has taught at RADA, Central, the Actors Centre, the National Youth Theatre and all over the world. He and Deborah Frances-White wrote The Improv Handbook, published by Continuum in 2008. With Robert Khan, he is the author of the plays Coalition, Making News and the forthcoming Kingmaker.
Deborah is the other founder director of The Spontaneity Shop. As well as performing in countless improvised comedy shows, she is also a stand-up comedian, corporate speaker, screenwriter and personal coach.
Alex has been a director at The Spontaneity Shop since 2006. He trained as an actor at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has acted in everything from Shakespeare at the Barbican to pantomime at Chipping Norton. He now dedicates his time to improvisation and improvisation-based training. He lives in Folkestone with his family.
Jana is a singer, songwriter, actress and improviser. She has appeared in TV shows such as Doctor Who, Silent Witness and Super Storm, and sings with the bands Piefinger and Sweet Billy Pilgrim.
Jeremy is an actor, singer and yoga teacher. He has appeared in musicals including My Fair Lady, Little Shop of Horrors and The Producers in the West End and on tour.
Briony is an actress, writer and improviser. She can be seen regularly on the London impro circuit with groups such as Grand Theft Impro and Monkey Toast. She wrote the hit Edinburgh comedy Farce Noir and is in double act Surname & Surname with Paul Foxcroft.
Charlotte is an actress, writer and voice artist. A seasoned improviser and graduate of the Central School of Speech & Drama, she is part of the core cast of Austentatious and has repeatedly survived London's annual 50-hour Improvathon.
